Hi, I'm Charles Oertel, a citizen of Norfolk Park, one of the suburbs adjacent to the proposed road. If I lived further away from the road, I would object to it, but probably not devote as much time to stopping it (in the same way you might object to human rights violations in China, but not actually do anything about it).
I have the time that most others don't because I an unemployed - otherwise I would also be in the 9-5 grind trying to pay off my home only to have its value plummet due to its proximity to a 4-lane highway. They say you get used to the noise from a road - but it didn't work for me when we lived near the M5 for a year.
My wife Julie and I run a small web business at FineBushPeople.co.za where you can find out more about me as a person. I'm afraid the arrogance and deceit of the road developers brings out the worst in me - and this website is the result. I hope this site will allow you to voice your concern and objection to the road without too much effort (we'll get to the human rights in China another day;-).
Of course, because we live right next to the alignment of the road, our opinions are dismissed as being from NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard). Which is why your opinion is all the more valuable to us. If we don't object, who will? Eventually we will have been robbed of everything that makes Cape Town such a beautiful and wonderful place to live. Then we may as well move to Johannesburg and earn a living :( My strength is that I am very logical, and because of this I cannot allow the scheme developers to get away with their contradictions, rhetoric and deceit. You will find examples of it all over their site, and I will highlight it in my comments on this site.
Those of us that can, must protest on behalf of those that can't. This little fellow hopped into our bedroom last night and frightened Julie by hopping over her foot ;-) Regrettably, our house was built in an area where the extremely endangered and rare leopard toad (Bufo pantheris) feeds. The impact is not too bad though - we look out for the toads and our garden is full of snails and insects that the toad feeds on.
The road, however, will run through an area where the leopard toad breeds, and this will make the species extinct. On what basis do we exterminate even one species, let alone the 14 we are aware will be impacted by this road?
If you would like to download this picture as a desktop wallpaper for your computer, go to the desktops download page. The picture has this site's URL on it, so you will remember it and pop in from time to time ;-)
PAIA Manual:
As per government regulations, here is our PAIA Manual. The intention of the manual is to instruct you how to find out information about our business. In practice it contains nothing that isn't already on this website or in the government gazette. To us it looks like lawyers lining their pockets...
